Oxelot Corporate Branding - case study

Note that this is a current client and a current work-in-progress. As materials or rounds of revisions are finished, there may be some delay before they are put up on the site. It is more important that I take good care of my client than that I update my portfolio immediately.

Corporate Identity

Round Four, add color

I thought it was about time to show off the design in color. She had asked about a different cat, even though the client liked the top right image sent in Round Three. I decided to show off the current logo's possibilities a little in this round before hunting down another cat. This round shows off the logo design from Round Three, in a few color combinations and styles that really bring out the strength of the design and help it stand out strongly. She has already given an initial positive response and asked after a silver treatment. I asked if the client wants me to take the time to do a full 3d rendering with a reflective surface and different light or camera placements. I'm waiting for a response.

Round Three, different image

Round Three

The client wanted to see a different ocelot/cat image. I extensively modified a stylized lioness to resemble the many ocelot images I had researched, and placed it in two different treatments with the font that the client preferred. Two basic logo concepts, and other requested case treatments (all uppercase, all lowercase, and title-cased) of the font were submitted. I also sent along questions for the client beginning to address colorization of the logo.

Round Two, different concepts

The client thought the lines were too thin on the abstracted logo, and didn't like the script on the other. She showed me logos she liked from companies such as Puma, which was a different direction, so my next round features test logos with much stronger bolded and san-serif fonts, a full sheet of fonts for her to look at, and finally an mock-up logo applying the distinctive coat pattern of an ocelot to the word itself. These are only concept tests, and of course would still require refinement and better accuracy before becoming a finalized logo.

Round One, initial concepts

Round One

Oxelot (deliberate misspelling of "ocelot," a small wild cat from the Central Americas) desires a strong corporate brand to unify several underlying projects. I began with research into images of the ocelot, for inspiration. I paid particular attention to things that made the ocelot different from other wild cats. Then I created two test concepts drew imagery of the cat into them, as seen in the two test logos sent in round one.

Note: this client is not in a rush. I'm currently waiting for responses to emails about round four.
